The Story
This painting was inspired by the tranquil beauty of Mayfield Park in Austin, Texas—a place I return to often, both in person and in memory. I was particularly drawn to the Bell Arch, which marks the trailhead of the Bell Trail. Its quiet presence, nestled among dappled shade and birdsong, felt like a portal into something both timeless and deeply personal. I took my reference photos during a peaceful morning walk, when the light was soft and the garden still. In translating that moment to canvas, I aimed to preserve not just the details of the stone and water, but the stillness—the gentle invitation to slow down and enter a quieter rhythm of the day.
